1 Produktübersicht1 Product overview

Die ICPROX-OTABRIDGE bringt neue Firmware und die Ersteinrichtung über Funk auf ICPROX-Tags und andere radino40-Geräte — ohne Kabel am Gerät, ohne Öffnen des Gehäuses. Der Stick hängt am USB des Rechners und sendet auf dem 2,4-GHz-Kanal, auf dem jedes Gerät im Update-Modus (Bootloader) lauscht.

  • Firmware-Update über Funk: das Gerät bleibt im Gehäuse oder in der Ladeschale
  • Einrichtung über Funk: Seriennummer, Konfiguration und Lizenz ganz ohne Kabel
  • Bedienung direkt im Browser (Chrome/Edge) — keine Software-Installation
  • Verschlüsselte, prüfsummengesicherte Übertragung; ein 350-kB-Update liegt in wenigen Sekunden auf dem Äther

The ICPROX-OTABRIDGE delivers firmware updates and initial provisioning over the air to ICPROX tags and other radino40 devices — no cable at the device, no opening of enclosures. The stick plugs into the PC's USB port and transmits on the 2.4 GHz channel every device listens on while in update mode (bootloader).

  • Over-the-air firmware updates: the device stays in its housing or charging cradle
  • Over-the-air provisioning: serial number, configuration and licence without any cable

3 Inbetriebnahme3 Commissioning

  1. Anstecken: Der Stick meldet sich als serieller USB-Anschluss („radino40 OTA-Bridge"); die grüne LED pulsiert. Treiber sind unter Windows 10/11 nicht erforderlich.
  2. Werkzeug öffnen: Die mitgelieferte HTML-Seite (Update-Werkzeug oder Einrichtungs-Werkzeug, siehe Kapitel 4 und 5) per Doppelklick in Chrome oder Edge öffnen — die Seiten funktionieren offline.
  3. Verbinden: Im Werkzeug den COM-Port des Sticks wählen. Die grüne LED leuchtet dann dauerhaft.
  1. Plug in: The stick enumerates as a USB serial port (“radino40 OTA-Bridge”); the green LED pulses. No drivers are required on Windows 10/11.
  2. Open the tool: Double-click the supplied HTML page (update tool or provisioning tool, see chapters 4 and 5) in Chrome or Edge — the pages work offline.
  3. Connect: Select the stick's COM port in the tool. The green LED turns steady.
Tipp: Die Browser-Werkzeuge nutzen Web Serial und laufen daher in Chrome und Edge; Firefox unterstützt das nicht.
Tip: The browser tools use Web Serial and therefore run in Chrome and Edge; Firefox does not support it.

4 Firmware-Update durchführen4 Performing a firmware update

  1. Update-Werkzeug öffnen (icprox_tag_ota.html) und mit dem Stick verbinden.
  2. Firmware-Paket wählen: die von In-Circuit gelieferte Update-Datei (.zip).
  3. Ziel festlegen: die Seriennummer des Geräts eintragen. Ohne Seriennummer nehmen alle lauschenden Geräte in Reichweite das Update an.
  4. Gerät in den Update-Modus bringen: das Gerät neu starten (z. B. ICPROX-Tag kurz in die Ladeschale legen und wieder entnehmen oder die Update-Funktion der App nutzen). Nach dem Neustart lauscht es einige Sekunden auf dem Funkkanal.
  5. Update starten und laufen lassen, bis das Werkzeug den Abschluss meldet. Das Gerät startet danach mit der neuen Firmware.
  1. Open the update tool (icprox_tag_ota.html) and connect to the stick.
  2. Select the firmware package: the update file (.zip) supplied by In-Circuit.
  3. Set the target: enter the device's serial number. Without a serial number, every listening device in range accepts the update.
  4. Put the device into update mode: restart it (e.g. briefly dock an ICPROX tag in its charging cradle and remove it again, or use the app's update function). After the restart it listens on the radio channel for a few seconds.
  5. Start the update and let it run until the tool reports completion. The device then boots the new firmware.
Achtung: Während eines Updates den Stick nicht abziehen und das Zielgerät mit Strom versorgt lassen (Tag in Reichweite der Ladeschale bzw. mit geladenem Akku). Ein abgebrochenes Update startet das Gerät im Update-Modus neu — es kann dann einfach erneut aktualisiert werden.
Caution: Do not unplug the stick during an update and keep the target device powered (tag near its charging cradle or with a charged battery). An interrupted update leaves the device in update mode — it can simply be updated again.

Für Automatisierung steht dieselbe Funktion als Kommandozeile bereit: python otabridge.py COMx update firmware.zip.

5 Einrichtung über Funk5 Provisioning over the air

Mit dem Einrichtungs-Werkzeug (radino40_provision.html, Modus „über Funk") lassen sich Geräte komplett ohne Kabel einrichten: Seriennummer, Hardware-Kennung, Gerätekonfiguration und die Gerätelizenz. Das Werkzeug „fängt" das Gerät beim Neustart in seinem Update-Fenster und hält es dann für die Dauer der Einrichtung ansprechbar. Details beschreibt die Anleitung des Werkzeugs selbst.

With the provisioning tool (radino40_provision.html, radio mode) devices can be set up entirely without a cable: serial number, hardware identifier, device configuration and the device licence. The tool “catches” the device in its update window during a restart and then keeps it responsive for the duration of the setup. Details are described in the tool's own documentation.
